Every June 16th, we observe the International Day of the African Child—a day to recognize the struggles, dreams, and limitless potential of Africa’s youth. At Tez ChildFund Africa, this day is not just a remembrance—it’s a celebration and a call to action.
Why This Day Matters
This powerful date honors the brave students of the 1976 Soweto Uprising in South Africa, who stood up against an unjust education system. Their courage sparked a movement—and today, June 16th symbolizes the ongoing fight for quality education, protection, and opportunity for every African child.
Our Celebration: Empowerment Through the Arts
This year, we brought the celebration to life with a vibrant community event in Kampala. Children from underserved neighborhoods took center stage to:
-
Perform original songs, poetry, and spoken word
-
Display powerful artwork reflecting their hopes and resilience
-
Join creative workshops in storytelling, music production, and digital design
These were more than performances—they were acts of self-expression, healing, and learning.
Why Your Support Matters
This day reminds us why we do what we do: to ignite confidence, creativity, and opportunity in every child. When youth are given a platform to express themselves, they begin to believe in their worth—and in their future.
Your support fuels these moments.
Let’s uplift the voices of Africa’s children—on June 16th and every day after.
