While rebuilding our shelter program, we continue to visit vulnerable children within their communities whenever funding allows.

THE REALITY
The Challenge We Are Addressing
Across Kampala and other communities in Uganda, thousands of children face:
- Extreme poverty
- Family breakdown
- Abuse or neglect
- Lack of access to education
- Hunger and malnutrition
- Exposure to exploitation
Some children sleep on the streets. Others remain in unstable homes without proper support. Whether visible or hidden, vulnerability steals childhood. Without intervention, these children face lifelong hardship.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE BEFORE
Proof That Change Is Possible
In 2019, Tez ChildFund Africa launched its first rescue and rehabilitation initiative. We rented a house and transformed it into a temporary shelter. For three months, 21 children from the streets of Kampala and the slums of Katwe experienced:
- Safe accommodation
- Nutritious daily meals
- Medical treatment
- Counseling and emotional care
- Music lessons
- Football coaching
- Preparation for school reintegration
For three months, they were not surviving. They were thriving. Unfortunately, due to insufficient funding, we were forced to close the shelter. It was one of the most difficult decisions we have ever faced. But those three months proved something powerful: When given the opportunity, children rise.
WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW
Supporting Children From Their Communities
Although our shelter operations paused, our mission did not end. Today, when financially able, we:
- Visit vulnerable children in their communities
- Provide food support when possible
- Assist with school-related needs
- Offer emotional encouragement and mentorship
- Maintain relationships with children previously rescued
We are rebuilding responsibly — strengthening governance, financial systems, and long-term sustainability structures. But limited funding restricts how many children we can help.
