Some children sleep on the streets. Others remain in unstable homes without proper support. Whether visible or hidden, vulnerability steals childhood. Without intervention, these children face lifelong hardship.
In 2018, Tez ChildFund Africa launched its first rescue and rehabilitation initiative. We rented a house in Kiwatule and transformed it into a temporary shelter. For months, 21 children from the streets of Kampala and the slums of Katwe experienced:
For months, they were not surviving, they were thriving. Unfortunately, due to insufficient funding, we were forced to close the shelter. It was one of the most difficult decisions we have ever faced. But those months proved something powerful: When given the opportunity, children rise.
