When Pads Mean Power: Fighting Period Poverty in Kampala
In Kampala’s slums, missing school isn’t about laziness—it’s about lacking pads. At Tez ChildFund Africa, we’re tackling period poverty by providing reusable pad kits and menstrual health education. Because when a girl has dignity, she has power.

In the slums of Kampala, a lack of sanitary pads does more than interrupt hygiene—it interrupts futures. At Tez ChildFund Africa, we’ve seen firsthand how period poverty silently steals education, confidence, and dignity from young girls.

The Hidden Crisis

For many girls, getting their period means staying home from school. Without access to safe menstrual products:

  • 1 in 3 girls in our programs miss up to 5 days of school each month

  • Many are forced to use rags, paper, or nothing at all—putting them at risk of infections, embarrassment, and isolation

This isn’t just a health issue—it’s a barrier to equality.

Our Response: Restoring Dignity Through Access and Education

We’re working to change that by:

  • Distributing reusable pad kits that can last up to a year

  • Delivering menstrual health education in schools to break the stigma and build body confidence

We’re not just handing out products—we’re building a culture of openness, empowerment, and support for girls.

What Your Support Can Do

  • $5 provides a reusable pad kit for one girl

  • $50 funds a menstrual health workshop for an entire classroom

When a girl can manage her period with dignity, she’s free to focus on school, pursue her dreams, and walk tall in her community.

Pads aren’t a luxury—they’re a lifeline.
