For every vulnerable child, there is an opportunity to rewrite their story. Since 2018, Tez ChildFund Africa has been working alongside children, families, and communities across Uganda to provide protection, education, hope, and lasting opportunities for a better future.
Who We Are
A Grassroots Organization with a Heart for Children
Tez ChildFund Africa is a nonprofit organization registered in Uganda and founded in 2018 with a commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children and strengthening the communities in which they live.
Our work began after recognizing the growing number of children living on the streets and in underserved communities around Kampala. Many of these children lacked consistent access to food, education, healthcare, protection, and the stable family support every child deserves.
What started as a simple initiative to provide meals and encouragement quickly grew into a broader vision: creating sustainable pathways that help vulnerable children grow up safe, healthy, educated, and empowered.
Today, we continue working directly with children and families through community-based support while preparing to relaunch a structured rescue and temporary shelter program for children in crisis.
We believe that lasting change happens when children are protected, families are strengthened, and communities are empowered to care for their most vulnerable members.
Our Story
How It All Began
Tez ChildFund Africa was founded by Hamuza Tezikubwa, whose passion for serving vulnerable children was shaped by witnessing the realities faced by children living on the streets and in low-income communities.
In 2018, the organization began conducting outreach in the streets and informal settlements of Kampala, providing meals, encouragement, and basic support to more than 100 vulnerable children. These early interactions revealed that many children needed more than immediate relief—they needed safety, guidance, education, and consistent care.
Later that year, Tez ChildFund Africa established a temporary residential shelter in Kiwatule, Nakawa Division. The shelter became a safe haven for 21 rescued children, offering nutritious meals, educational preparation, counseling, structured daily routines, recreation, and emotional support.
Although the shelter operated for only three months due to limited funding, it demonstrated that even modest resources, when combined with committed leadership and community support, can restore hope and transform young lives.
Rather than allowing this setback to define our future, we chose to continue serving children within their communities while strengthening our organizational capacity and planning for a sustainable relaunch of our rescue and shelter program.
Today, our journey continues with renewed determination, stronger governance, and a long-term vision to create lasting change for vulnerable children across Uganda.

Our Approach
Community-Based Support First
Whenever it is safe and appropriate, we believe children thrive best within loving family environments. Our first priority is to strengthen families and communities so children can remain connected to those who care for them.
Through nutrition support, educational assistance, psychosocial care, family follow-up, and emergency interventions, we help families overcome challenges before they escalate into crises.
For children who cannot safely remain at home, we are working toward relaunching a structured temporary shelter that provides protection, stability, and preparation for reintegration or alternative care.
Our approach emphasizes prevention, protection, recovery, and long-term resilience.
Why Our Work Matters
Every child deserves more than survival—they deserve the opportunity to dream, learn, and succeed.
Across Uganda, many children continue to face poverty, neglect, abuse, family instability, and barriers to education and healthcare. Without timely support, these challenges can lead to school dropout, homelessness, exploitation, and cycles of poverty that span generations.
